Round 1 of public input on goals, policies, and existing conditions review. Gather feedback on future goals and actions in each sub-area. Identify key neighborhood or area contacts.
July - August
Planning Commission reviews community input and forms draft amendments, changes or alternatives for future goals, policies, and implementation.

Oct. - Dec.
Public hearings held at Planning Commission and Town Council on amendments to Comprehensive Plan. Continued input to finalize amendments to goals, policies, and implementation charts.

Adopted December 20th!
Staff and the Planning Commission developed a community engagement plan to define principles and actions. The best practice example of Alexandria's "What's Next Alexandria: Handbook for Civic Engagement" was used to inform this process.

Informed Practice
Income and demographic survey information was gathered on attendees to ensure that all of Ashland was being engaged. After a 5 community meetings in June, this data informed staff to intentionally reach out to Ashland's African Amercian residents, downtown businesses, and residents living east of Route 1.

Beginning in June, over 200 people participated in community engagement meetings.
Round 1
Input from Round 1 was used to draft amendments, which were used to lead in-depth community engagement meetings discussing the amendments to the Comprehensive Plan.
